WHAT WE LOOK FOR

Through the diversity of knowledge and experience in the mentor pool, we can support the growth of any compelling company from any sector.

We are looking for companies at an appropriate stage of growth to maximize the offerings of the TiE ScaleUp program and to enter the TiE Boston community. For this reason, we do not have a set quota of companies for each cohort. However, we do strive to keep the cohort small to ensure each company is receiving the attention and resources necessary to succeed.

TiE ScaleUp is a "sector agnostic" accelerator and we bring in companies from all areas of industry.

Companies that are in a position to best leverage the offerings of ScaleUp often exhibit the following characteristics:

  • Commercially viable

  • Paying Customers

  • Planning to raise in the next 6 - 12 months

  • Management team in place

  • Receptive to review of company product/market fit

  • Understands their greatest challenges to scale

  • Founding team is open and receptive to help

  • Located in New England area

  • Commitment to participate in and complete the program

Exceptions can be made for companies depending on the growth cycle of their sector. Not all of these characteristics must necessarily be present for a company to receive an invitation to TiE ScaleUp. If you have any questions on your eligibility, contact Simone LaPray at simone@boston.tie.org.

There is no fee to apply and every application will receive feedback from our review committee members. The application should take founders 10 - 15 minutes to complete. Though our application varies from year to year, we generally ask for the following information:

  • Contact Information

  • Company Business Model

  • Market Opportunity

  • Current Business Model

  • Revenue Stream

  • Fundraising Plans

  • Barriers to Scale

  • Pitch Deck

We treat this information with the utmost respect and care. This information will only be made available to the individuals to review your application with the expectation to maintain confidentiality. If you have any questions, please contact Simone at simone@boston.tie.org

In curating a cohort of the leading "Seed to Series A" startups, we have two rounds of review led by experienced mentors and entrepreneurs from our community.

We ensure:

  • Each application is reviewed online by at least three entrepreneurs from our community;

  • Each applicant receives feedback based on the information and materials submitted in the application; and

  • All applications materials are treated with care and information not shared outside of the review process.

If a company has advanced to the second round of review, we will send an invitation for an in-person interview. Founders will have an opportunity to go through their pitch deck and to share more details on the challenges facing the company. This helps us to better understand the model and to also have clarity on how we can best support your company. The founders also to get a chance to meet us!

If an in-person interview is not possible due to the travel schedule of the candidate company, we will reach out to make the necessary arrangements.
